FAQ: How To Setup Notes Server Version 5.0 or later

Notes/Domino Server needs to be configured to a) receive messages from Notes POP3 and b) send messages through Notes POP3 to the Internet (optional).
STEP 1: Assign Notes Server an Internet Domain
Note: if you already have assigned your server an Internet domain name follow the instructions to ensure it is configured correctly.
Make sure you already have a Configuration Settings document for the server to be configured.
From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and then expand the Messaging section.
Choose Domains, and then click Add Domain.
On the Basics tab, complete these fields:
Domain Type: choose Global Domain
Global Domain name: type any descriptive text
Global Domain role: choose R5 Internet Domain or R4.x SMTP MTA
Click the Conversions tab.
Complete these fields:
Local primary Internet domain: the primary Internet domain name that your company uses to represent themselves to the outside world
Internet address lookup: enabled
Save the document.
STEP 2: Setup SMTP Routing
Note: if you already have done this follow the instructions to ensure it is configured correctly.
Make sure you already have a Configuration Settings document for the server to be configured.
From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and then expand the Messaging section.
Choose Configurations.
Select the Configuration Settings document and then click Edit Configuration.
Click the Router/SMTP tab.
On the Basics subtab, complete these fields:
SMTP used when sending messages outside the local Internet domain: enabled
Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain: Enter the host name or IP address of the PC where Notes POP3 is installed. If Notes POP3 is installed on your Notes/Domino server then enter 127.0.0.1
STEP 3: Setup Notes/Domino to receive mail sent via SMTP routing
Note: if you already have done this follow the instructions to ensure it is configured correctly.
From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and then expand the Server section.
Select the Server document to be edited and the click Edit Server.
On the Basics tab, complete this field:
SMTP listener task: enabled
Click the Ports tab.
Click the Internet Ports subtab.
Click the Mail subtab.
If you have installed Notes POP3 on the Notes/Domino Server then you need to change the Mail (SMTP Outbound) TCP/IP port number to 8025. If Notes POP3 is installed on a separate PC then the port should be set to 25.
STEP 4: Restart Notes/Domino Server for changes to take affect.
STEP 5: You are now ready to use Notes POP3

You have now completed the necessary steps for configuring Notes Server and Notes POP3 to work together.
